CommentsToronto ON, July 20, 2008. Hundreds of residents of an east-Toronto apartment tower were evacuated after an explosion occurred in the basement of the building. Firefighters were called to respond to smoke coming from an underground hydro vault in the basement of the building when an explosion erupted, sending a shock wave throughout the many floors of the apartment tower. Ten people were injured, including nine firefighters. Approximately 900 people were evacuated from the building. Some nearby homes were also evacuated.
