Comments | North West River and Sheshatshiu NL, June 24-25, 2012. Two local states of emergency were declared when wildfires threatened the communities of North West River and Sheshatshiu. There were over 1000 residents who had to be evacuated and air lifted to safety. Approximately 700 evacuees were accommodated at Canadian Forces Base Goose Bay and 300 were accommodated in emergency housing in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The evacuation order was lifted on June 25 and residents were allowed to return to their homes. |
