CommentsMaritime Provinces, January 17-22, 2000. An intense storm hit the maritimes for 6 days. Up to 70 centimetres of snow fell in some areas and temperatures plummeted to –40 degrees Centigrade with the wind chill. Flooding caused extensive damage to private property and public infrastructure in Newfoundland, New Brunswick, and P.E.I. Wind gusts hit 120 kilometres per hour. Cape Breton, Shediac, New Brunswick and P.E.I were hit especially hard by the storm, as well as areas along the Gulf of St. Laurence and the Northumberland Strait in New Brunswick.
