CommentsKeshechewan ON, October 27, 2005. The Ontario government declared a state of emergency at the remote Keshechewan native reserve after discovering E.coli bacteria in the community's drinking water supply. The tainted drinking water forced the evacuation of the reserve, home of approximately 1,100. Seventy four people, mostly families with children suffering from skin rashes and chronic diarrhea, were immediately flown to Sudbury and hospitalized for medical treatment. Other remaining evacuees from the reserve were sent to other cities.
