CommentsNewbrook AB, May 16-19, 2008. A wildfire burning near the community of Newbrook forced the evacuation of approximately 150 people. A team of 115 firefighters aided by 40 firefighters from British Columbia, halted the fire from reaching Newbrook by bulldozing a strip of timber in between the town and the fire, which prevented the fire from spreading. The fire reached a maximum size of 1,950 hectares. Two houses were destroyed by the blaze.
