CommentsIn the early afternoon of June 25th, a 10-car passenger train (the Winnipeg Express) bound for the Prairies carrying newly arrived immigrants from Ireland and Scotland, left the Ottawa train station. At McKellar town site (now the McKellar Park neighbourhood in Ottawa), several train cars left the track and toppled into the Ottawa River. The train accident resulted in 8 deaths and injured at least 50 others.
