CommentsEdmonton AB, July 18, 2009. A cold front mixed with warm air produced severe thunderstorms in the Edmonton area. The city of Edmonton, along with Lamont and Strathcona counties, were hit by a storm cell that produced intense lightning, heavy rain, hail and strong winds of up to 110 km/h. The strong winds downed trees and power lines, knocking out power to an unknown number of people. In Edmonton, the powerful winds ripped the awning off the Edmonton CN Tower, causing damages to the tower and vehicles parked below. In addition, lightning caused various fires throughout the city.
