Comments | Eyjafjallajökull glacier, Iceland, April 14, 2010. A volcanic eruption occurred under the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, in the south of Iceland approximately at 04:00 local time on April 14. The eruption resulted in large volumes of volcanic ash being spewed into the air. As a result, flights in and out of Europe were greatly affected with large numbers of cancellations. Foreign Affairs and International Trade reported being contacted by 1,200 requests from affected Canadians. Transport Canada reported over 200 departures and arrivals of transatlantic flights which were cancelled during the interval.
