Comments | 1910 was an exceptional fire season across parts of British Columbia including the Southern Interior. By July 20th, hundreds of government firefighters were working throughout the Southern Interior to save communities as well as mining and logging camps. For example, it is reported that 300 individuals were dispatched to protect Sandon, BC. Women and children in affected communities such as Sandon were evacuated by rescue train. Entire communities were reported to have burned such as Retallack (formerly Whitewater), Zincton, and McGuigan. Although reports are sparse, at least five individuals were killed, several more were missing, hundreds were evacuated and hundreds were left homeless. |
