Comments | Cranberry Portage MB, June 23 to July 6, 2010. A wildfire 13 kilometres east of Cranberry Portage prompted mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders. Residents from Cranberry Portage were advised to evacuate on June 23 due to smoke from the approaching flames. The Iskwasum and Gyles campgrounds in the Grass River Provincial Park were under a mandatory evacuation order. The road between Cranberry Portage and Sherridon was temporary closed to local traffic due to concerns over visibility. On June 24, approximately 200 people voluntarily evacuated from Cranberry Portage as the fire grew in size. The wildfire reached a maximum size of approximately 55,000 hectares and there were 440 firefighters, 13 helicopters and 13 water bombers combating the flames. On July 6, the travel restrictions near Cranberry Portage were lifted. |
